Soldered Inputronic-KEYBOARD MicroPython Library

Inputronic Keyboard - 80-Key I2C Keypad Breakout
Inputronic Keyboard - 80-Key I2C Keypad Breakout (opens in a new tab)

This board is a complete 80-key keypad breakout (8x10 tactile-switch matrix) built around Texas Instruments' TCA8418 I2C keyboard scanner. Rather than consuming 18 GPIO pins on a microcontroller, the chip handles scanning and debouncing independently and reports key press/release events over I2C (address 0x34) via a 10-event FIFO buffer. Two Qwiic connectors provide solder-free wiring. This library abstracts the raw FIFO scanning into key press/release events, upper/lower keymaps with SHIFT support, and convenience helpers for polling, blocking string input, and "type mode" callbacks. Part of the Qwiic ecosystem (opens in a new tab).

How to install

After installing the mpremote package (opens in a new tab), install the library on your board using the following command:

  mpremote mip install github:SolderedElectronics/Soldered-Inputronic-KEYBOARD-MicroPython-Library

Or, if you're running a Windows OS:

python -m mpremote mip install github:SolderedElectronics/Soldered-Inputronic-KEYBOARD-MicroPython-Library

Repository Contents

  • InputronicKeyboard.py - MicroPython driver class
  • InputronicKeymap.py - upper/lower keymap tables
  • InputronicShiftmap.py - SHIFT-key character mapping
  • package.json - mip install manifest
  • /Examples - polling, serial-type, and OLED-type examples
